Zachary Williams
My new works focus on the human figure, using traditional practices of drawing and painting to illustrate a critical, politically-charged visual commentary on modern American culture. I want to address the reality of violence that many children find themselves in, particularly here in the Southside of Chicago. To do this, I plan on using iconic symbols from my childhood juxtaposed with symbols of violence, particularly guns and bullets. My intent is that the unnerving contrast of youthful whimsy and the threat of imminent violence will continue the ongoing dialogue regarding gun violence and children in our communities.
